About Colin Copeland

25 years on the factory floor — and in the boardroom

I have spent a career making manufacturing businesses work better. Not from a distance, but inside them — understanding the people, the processes, and the pressures that determine whether a business thrives or struggles.

My story

I started my career as an engineer at Rolls Royce Aero Engines and moved to Michelin after graduating in mechanical engineering. I learned early that the gap between a good process and a great one is rarely technical — it is almost always about people, leadership, and the discipline to follow through.

Over the following two decades I moved through engineering, operations, and general management roles across a range of manufacturing sectors — from aerospace and automotive to food production and industrial equipment. I have led SME teams of five to large organisations employing hundreds. I have helped manage turnarounds, supported growth programmes, and built the kind of lean cultures that outlast the consultant who helped create them.

In 2015 I founded CIF Management Consultants to bring that experience directly to the businesses that need it most — typically owner-managed manufacturers and mid-market businesses where the right intervention at the right time can make a transformational difference.

I work with a small number of clients at any one time, which means you get my full attention — not a junior team working from a playbook. Every engagement is built around your specific situation, your people, and what a genuinely good outcome looks like for your business.

How I work

Straight talking

I will tell you what I see, not what you want to hear. That is what you are paying for.

Hands on

I work alongside your team, not above them. The best solutions come from understanding the detail.

Results focused

Every engagement has clear outcomes. I measure success by what changes in your business, not by the quality of my slide deck.

Knowledge transfer

I build capability in your people so the improvements last long after I have gone.
